Essay: Reducing Harm to the Children from Single-parent Families

Single-parent families are now becoming more common, however do people know it results in more and more children have a variety s troubles of life? Nowadays, a lot of couples break up for their own reasons, and it makes many children can only live with one parent. Today in the United States, around 30 percent of all families with children are headed by a single parent, it seems getting worse.(John Kelly, ‘Does single parenting affect children’?) The best way to reduce the harm of children is to reduce the divorce rate and give their children a sense of security.
Farther is missing in family education have a great impact on children. Children whose fathers are stable and involved are better off on almost every cognitive, social, and emotional measure developed by researchers. For example, high levels of father involvement are correlated with sociability, confidence, and high levels of self-control in children. Moreover, children with involved fathers are less likely to act out in school or engage in risky behaviors in adolescents.??(Anthes, E. ‘Family guy. Scientific American Mind’). I remember when I was young, my dad taught me how to communicate with others, and how to be polite to others like a man to take responsibility, if without my father in my growing, there are so many problems I don’t know how to solve. It’s important for children will have the highest level of well-being when they are raised in a low-conflict married household, acknowledging the importance of strong maternal as well as paternal relationships.??(Sobolewski, J. Children from single-parent families will impact their grades. Many of the developmental risks that children of single parents face have to do with their progress in school. Compared to kids from two-parent families, they tend to get lower grades, suffer more absenteeism, and have more problems relating to peers and teachers. Their drop-out rate is higher, and they’re less likely to attend college (McLanahan, Sara. “Double the Trouble.”??).??The relation between strained finances and children doing poorly in school can be direct, as with a child who feels obligated to drop out of school to help make ends meet. Or, the impact can be indirect: A single parent working two jobs may simply have less time to help with homework and have less control over his or her kids. In my opinion, the children from single-parent families can not focus on their study, because of family problems led them to have painful memories, so they can not put thoughts focused on learning. These is another reason, single-parent families usually do not have enough money to let the children get the best education.
Therefore, we can find single-parent families are bad for kids, so we need to do something to reduce the harm to the children from single-parent families. We need to call on all of great importance to their marriage, be more responsible for their children’s growth. Of course, we are also concerned about the children of single-parent families. We should take measures from the economic, psychological to help them grow up healthily.
