Over the past few years in the United States, the legalization of Marijuana has been a hot topic in the conversations of many. The legalization of marijuana has been a controversial trend as well getting the congress involved along with several states’ governments. The big question starts to become: is legalizing marijuana the right thing to do? I would say that this is a good thing because many people tend to think that it would hurt the U.S more than help but I firmly believe that it would bring tremendous revenue along with less crime in selling the substance on the black market. All of these things tend to be talked about in the conversation but could there be a common ground found here? I say that there can be, as five U.S states have legalized marijuana for either recreational or medical use and many more are on the verge of doing so. In all, this controversy is going to eventually level out meaning that every state legalizes it or every state makes it illegal and right now it seems to be trending towards being legal in the entire United States.

Citizens Against Legalizing Marijuana (CALM) is an all-volunteer Political Action Committee dedicated to defeating any effort to legalize marijuana. They are a dedicated group of individuals, parents, business owners, medical professionals, crime and safety officials, young and old – all working to defeat the legalization of marijuana in California and other targeted states.Citizens Against Legalizing Marijuana (CALM) takes the position that Federal laws against the use, cultivation, and transportation of marijuana should be maintained and enforced and should not be relaxed or softened.

Various moral and practical arguments have helped to catalyze the growing trend of legalization and decriminalization of marijuana. However, you can still get arrested for selling or trafficking marijuana if you aren’t following state laws on licensure and taxation. The marijuana industry has grown significantly since 2000 and federal officials maintain that the legalization of marijuana will contribute to the increase of youth and adolescent use because it will make marijuana easier to obtain, reduce its perceived risks and more adult role models would be smoking it. Support for reform can be found among liberals, but also among conservatives, particularly those with libertarian-leaning beliefs. Those very same masses are already consuming the product, so whatever its effects, they are already among us. Maine already allows medicinal marijuana use. The report needs to recognize the difference in attitude of acceptance of medicinal and recreational use within the different groups being acknowledged here. This November, Americans in nine states will vote on measures to establish or expand legal marijuana use.
