LITERATURE REVIEW:
According to my previous research, it has shown that the Tortoise Beetle affects the Eucalyptus trees seen in the past study, ‘NEW WORK ON BIOCONTROL FOR EUCALYPTUS TORTOISE BEETLE’ in New Zealand by Toni Withers of Scion May 2012. In my investigation, I would like to find out if the Tortoise Beetle affects any other plant species. However I did come across another past study that investigates what other plant species the Tortoise Beetle affects, and the study came to the conclusion that the Tortoise Beetle does in fact affect the Canada Thistle (Asteraceae) weed in Iran. This study’s findings indicate that the tortoise beetle is a promising biological control agent for Canada thistle in arable crops and grasslands in Iran. However this past study shows that the Tortoise Beetle is found to affect the Canada Thistle in Iran, so I would need to then find out if there is any plant in South Africa, Johannesburg , that is affected by the Tortoise Beetle. My research is important because I am then able to see if the Tortoise Beetle, as a biocontrol agent, is able to kill any other alien invasive species in South Africa. There is also not much information on my aim and hypothesis of my research question, therefore that is why I would like to justify this myself.

RESEARCH QUESTION:
I am hoping to answer the question on whether the Tortoise Beetle attacks plant species other than the Eucalyptus tree and if so, then it may be possible to use as a biocontrol agent to kill other alien invasive species.
HYPOTHESIS:
It is expected that the Tortoise Beetle does in fact affect other plant species other than the Eucalyptus tree.
AIM:
To determine whether biocontrol agents such as the Tortoise Beetle attacks plant species other than the Eucalyptus tree.
DATA COLLECTION PLAN:
‘ I will be collecting data for eucalyptus leaves and data for Canada Thistle
‘ I will physically collect eucalyptus leaves and I will research data of the Canada Thistle as they are found in Iran.
‘ I will start collecting data from March 2014.
‘ I will collect for one month
‘ I will collect twice per week
‘ This data will show me how the Tortoise Beetle affects the Eucalyptus leaves and how it affects the Canada Thistle.
‘ I will present the information by images taken by myself and images of the Thistle from the internet as well as the use of graphs.
‘ 1-31 March : collect data from Eucalyptus leaves as well as data from the internet for Canada Thistle.
May : gather images and sort results into graphs and conclusions.
June : write up my own conclusion to my question to the research task.
July : review my final write up including methods and materials as well as my conclusion
August : Deadline for draft final write-up.
