World War II was one of the greatest watersheds of 20th-century political history. There have been many conflicts during World War 2, some of which have been very influential and had a huge impact into today's world or the modern era. Conflicts such as Allies and axis powers, Hiroshima in Japan, and Hitler/Holocaust. The allies/the central power and axis powers consisted of countries that would split each other up to form a “team” like world. The Hiroshima bombing happened on August 5, 1945 the United States dropped the bombs after obtaining the consent of the United Kingdom, as required by the Quebec Agreement. The holocaust was a mass genocide during World War II in which the Nazi murdered many Jewish Citizens .
The allies and axis power were malfunctioning and opposing towards the world. Not until long enough where the of Allies and axis powers came to an end. On October 24, 1945 the UN would be formed. The UN, also known as the United Nations, is a organization which promotes international cooperation and to tries to maintain international order. At the time of World War 2, there were 51 countries that took part in the UN but today there are about 193 countries that currently work together. Although it was very controversial organization in the beginning, the UN has been undoubtedly encouraged freedom, promoted human rights, fought poverty, and tried to spread peace worldwide. Although if the Allies and Axis powers still present, it would have caused many conflicts between other countries and also probably could've caused another World War. Additionally, countries still would be spilt, freedom and equality might of not been allowed.
The atomic bombs that hit Japan were very devastating. The United States was the first ever country in the world to have and use an atomic bomb on an opposing country. This of course rallied up many questions on how they developed and created a very powerful bomb that would slaughter many Japanese citizens. The two bombings killed at least 129,000 people, most of whom were civilians (Author). Ever since the bombing has occurred it has taught many countries to be very careful with nuclear weapon. Using nuclear weapons could either end or start another world war. Many people in 1945 would have expected more nuclear weapons to be produced and used in the cold war, however that wasn't the case. If that would have happened many people would have died and it would have resulted in being a nuclear warfare that would go back and forth. America played a huge role ever since they drop the bomb. It influenced nine other countries to develop nuclear weapons. Those countries are United States, Russia, China, Britain, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel.
The Hiroshima bombing also caused many countries, more so America have been creating these nuclear weapon and they cost a lot of money and are spending a fortune on it. The estimation for how much the U.S. will spend in 2017 to 2022 is between $600 billion and $670 billion on its nuclear weapons programs. Additionally, the estimate for missile defenses, which have a role in first-strike nuclear warfighting, is between $95 and $97 billion. In a sense this also is very controversial in some ways because some people think that the money used for weapons and utilery should be used to feed the hungry children, house the homeless, ensure education and meet human expectations and needs.
After the Hiroshima bombing there were huge amounts of health issues, some of which are still being dealt with today. The bombing had huge amounts of radiation and it would enter the bodys of the civilians. There were many diseases that occurred although two of the main and long term diseases that occured are cancer and mutation in dna. Cancer such as leukemia is a cancer of blood-forming tissues, hindering the body's ability to fight infection, in this case it was too much exposure for to radiation (Listwa). Now that nearly seventy years have passed since the bombing has occurred most of the people then most likely aren't alive today. Although there should be much more attention on those children born to the survivors. Regarding individuals that had been exposed to radiation before birth could show birth defects (Piper). The birth defects could increase the chances of a newborn to have a small head size and mental disability, as well as impairment physical growth. Also people exposed to the radiation then, also have chances that there children and the future of the family will have a significant chance of having cancer. Although this might seem very bad past it gives scientist a chance to try to resolve these issues in the future.
Last but not least we have the effect/ impact of Hitler and the Holocaust. Hitler is infamously known as the greatest dictator ever. He was selfish, ignorant, vicious and evil and wanted the best for his own people and thought that the germans were superior amongst any person, religion and country in the world. This relates to a group of people that go by the “KKK” also known as the Ku Klux Klan. This group is heavily influenced by Hitler's ways and theories of violence and being supreme compared to other people. They use a confederate flag and a nazi symbol to represent themselves. They want to have a country that consists of only “white people” and want to get rid of “black people” and any “immigrants” in the United States although they haven’t been very successful. Although Hitler was very close to fulfilling this nightmare of his. Hitler made concentration camps which was a place where large numbers of people specifically Jewish, are prisoners or members that are persecuted in a malignant way. They systematically murdered approximately 6 million European Jews, and about two-thirds of the Jewish population in Europe which was the greatest genocide ever. Ever since the mass murdering of the Jewish citizens, today there are now approximately 6.4 million jews in the world which means that over the past seventy-years there has been a population deduction of around 2.4 million (Langness). Although it was a huge massacre the we have the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN Genocide Convention. Most survivors alive today were children during World War II and they are probably currently seeking for special attention to the care of these survivors. As they approach old age, they will face new challenges, including retirement, declining health and losing a one, which will only result them in extreme stress and remind them of the past.
Today most countries don't accept dictators to take over they now give power to people, like presidents. They did this because of the Holocaust, so they don't want any recurrence of this horrific genocide that stole the innocent lives of Jewish people. In today's society you are taught from day one to "treat others the way you would want to be treated". Your taught discrimination is a sin. This genocide shows as if that was okay to kill off certain people because of their religion which is far from the answer. This affected our society like no other war or battle has. The Holocaust has and will affect us whether it was in the Past, Present, or Future.
As you can see, World War 2 has had a tremendous effect on modern society. The United nations were formed which was a good thing to keep the world in peace. Ever since the Hiroshima bombing there have been nine countries that now have nuclear weapons. Also America and as well as the other nine countries, have spent billions of dollars on nuclear weapons. The bombing caused medical radiation which had a huge medical effect on future children such as Dna mutation and cancer. Hitler ways or theories of being violent has influenced many other americans specifically a group that goes by the KKK. The concentration camps caused depopulation of Jewish people at 2.4 million, and the medical and long term effect on any survivor such as trauma, or losing a loved one.
