Political parties are a historic centerpiece of American politics that have created a variety of different opinions on issues in modern society. After carefully reviewing the dual parties, Democratic & Republican, that our democracy utilizes, I am in support of the Republican party as a representation of my own beliefs. As stated by RepublicanViews.org, “The core beliefs of the Republican Party are centered on the idea that each person is responsible for their own place within society.” This essentially means that an individual is in charge of his/herself in society and no one else. This core belief is how republicans run our government and focus on specific issues such as gun control, immigration, environment, federal spending, abortion etc. Republicans take a more conservative approach which is what makes them different from other parties while focusing on the individual rather than a specific group.
Gun Control:
The republican party has made public its dedication to the most important nature of human freedom and an individuals responsibility when practicing that freedom. In the case of guns and gun laws, republicans believe that American Citizens have the right to own, carry, and use guns. The democratic belief that opposes republican ideologies is that guns should be restricted and regulated strictly due to increased gun violence. Guns have become increasingly popular because of an increase in gun violence in the U.S., which is true based on the steady rise of terrorist attacks and school shooting. Although guns are being used in our schools as well as public areas to harm American citizens, guns are not the issue. The issue is the people behind the trigger who would openly fire at another human with the intent to kill. Guns should only be restricted to those people with psychological disabilities rather than restricting the general public. Guns were granted to us by our founding fathers with the intent that one would not use them to harm another citizen. As times change and new technology is presented to us, we as humans like to blame that change for everything that is wrong in society, when in reality people just need to change with the times and focus on the best way to control issues involving certain change.
Immigration:
On the issue of immigration, republicans focus on the needs of national security when addressing immigration laws and immigration reforms. Democrats believe that immigration is a clear representation of our character as a country and is a problem that needs to be solved. As a whole, the republican party believes that there needs to be a system in place that ensures that immigrants are not granted the same benefits as legal citizens. Using extra resources and devoting time and money towards keeping immigrants from entering illegally, but recognizing those immigrants who enter through legal methods and warmly welcoming them into the U.S.. The belief is that if one enters the country illegally then that encourages future immigrants to enter the U.S. using illegal forms of immigration. Immigration has been an issue in this country for a extended period of time now, it is an issue that is overdue for awhile now and one way to make it better is to make it easier for immigrants to get into the country in order to reduce the amount of immigrants who try to enter illegally.
Environment:
Conservation of the environment is a republican belief and considered to be a conservative value as long as it is balanced. Democrats believe that climate change in an imminent threat to our economy, national security, and the health of our children. In the republican eye, human health and safety is a top priority in environmental concerns because humans are this country’s most valuable resource. RepublicanViews.org explains, “Any policy that supports conservation must equally address economic growth and development, as well as private property rights, in order for it to be practical.” This essentially means that in any given situation, the protection of the environment needs to align with the basic needs of the Economy in order to be reasonable. The protection of our environment by means of conservation grants the protection and care of our citizens which is the conservative republican belief.
Federal Spending:
The republican party historically follows a policy of low federal spending. The democratic belief however supports tight budget caps and rules that task the government with new initiatives. The republican party believes in low taxation for all citizens and a reduced government budget. “the party believes that the government should only collect enough tax to meet the requirements for its essential functions,” explains RepublicanViews.org. The goal is to present the people the governments role and display the effect that tax policies have on American Citizens. In conclusion, government spending is intended to be low and taxation of U.S. citizens should be even across the board and also low so that the governments role remains as low as possible.
Abortion:
The republican view on abortion revolves around one key opinion, the belief that an unborn child has the same rights and another individual in this country and should not be infringed by anyone. The Democratic belief is that women should have the choice to abort and be able to by legal means if necessary. Republicans believe that all the rights in the Fourteenth Amendment apply to all U.S. citizens as well as unborn children. They oppose any use of public revenues that are supported by abortion , and also oppose any healthcare coverage that helps with abortion. As an alternate, they support tax incentives for American citizens who avoid abortion and choose adoption instead. A unborn child that has been conceived is entitled to the same rights as any citizen of the U.S. and is unconstitutional to eliminate any life that has not begun yet.
Political Parties in America are a major part of the government system in todays society and have a variety of different opinions that differ between different issues. The republican party is the one I chose to represent myself because my beliefs more accurately align with republican ideologies. Even though I disagree with some opinions such as most conservative thoughts on Abortion and immigration, the republican party more clearly focuses on the individual, which is how I have based my ideas on and formed opinions based on those ideas that match up with with a republican. Even though I disagree on some beliefs of the republican party, I still believe it is the part for me.
