The Shakespeare play Othello mainly focuses on honesty and liars and in this play its known as a tragedy. The main character Othello winds up killing his wife for an ethical reason and its because he was manipulated to falsely to think that his wife is cheating with the person he just fired from the general stands. The play known as a tragedy is based on Iago manipulation. Which Othello action harmful to him and everyone Others. A quote made by an anonymous person who stated “ manipulative people latch onto empathetic targets and exploit their innate qualities. They find people who are easy going. Gentle and kind.” Meaning that people who find interest in manipulating people know how to target them first and how to peel the apple before it starts to ripe. This quote by this anonymous person who believe manipulators seek those whom they can tear apart just like Iago did in Othello by finding Othello insecurities and since during this time men were not only worshipped for being men but somehow they weren’t good for any of the white women during this time period either and according to Othello his skin color is the main insecurities.
Firstly Iago manipulation has cause Othello uproar and Iago was also motivated it states in an article name “The Motivation of Iago” by John C. it says “The Motivation of Iago is hate” meaning that he was using all the hate he has to make a devious plan to get to. In William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Othello, Iago demonstrates a mastery of manipulation. Iago was one of the people who had previously trusted and confided Iago tried to manipulate Othello by playing with his insecurities. Knowing where to find his insecurities as was one of the hardness things.
Next Iago started changing once the promotion was granted to Cassio and he wanted to power so he was going to ruin everyone and no one knew because they were tricked by Iago because he was a very good actor in the play. Iago knows how to also get to people find out there weakness and try to destroy them. “ Roderigo is a co-conspirator with Iago but is not equal in developing a web of lies and jealousy designed to ensnare others”. “Thus do I ever make my fool my purse (Shakespeare)” Iago manipulates people into his plan without giving away his intention by making it seem like he’s giving them choices and also to only get into their brain. Iago then takes advantage of the desperate former suitor of Desdemona and controls his emotions like a puppeteer pulling strings. With the line, “But for my sport and profit”, it only shows how Roderigo is easily manipulated by Iago. To enlist his help to eliminate Cassio because he wants the power, Iago makes up a lie of an affair between Desdemona and Cassio.
Shakespeare’s play Othello is based on the tragedy of Othello’s jealousy, which ironically leads Othello to kill Desdemona, his beloved (wife). Evil Iago and is above all Shakespeare’s villains which makes him a good manipulator in the play. Iago is a person with evil emotions, he had a good impact on a lot of the situation in the play even though he was only using his good talkative voice top persuade others. “ A Look at Janet Adelman’s Critical Essay, “Iago’s Alter Ego: Race as a projection in Othello” In Janet Adelman’s critical reading of Othello, she tries to identify racial issues in the sub-text, specifically explaining the actions of the title character through the psychoanalytic theory. She believes that Othello is a victim of the racist society in which he emerged once he married to Desdemona.” which I go with her with her because once he married her all hell broke loose.
Typically Iago is a good Manipulator he is a good vocabulary. The question being asked would be What makes a successful villain? In the case of Shakespeare’s Othello, Iago’s power and words to manipulate the people around him and caused conflict is with his words. Which then leads him to his success. The play Othello is a tragedy. Which also has multiple deaths, all of which were due to Iago’s influences. The main theme of the drama is revenge. The events that take place are due to Iago’s pursuit of revenge. In Othello for an example “Call up her father, Rouse him. Make after him, poison his delight, Proclaim him in the streets; incense her kinsmen, And, though he is a fertile climate dwell, Plague him with flies. Though that his joy be joy, Yet throw such changes of vexation on ‘tAs it may lose some color” meaning that he starts using manipulation to tell Brabantio about his Daughter t relationship to “The Moor Othello”.
Iago’s use of soliloquies is very unique and explanatory to his plan which makes his character show what their characteristics are and shows who he is in the play. Each of Iago’s soliloquies reveals his true evil and plans and how he’s going to do it. For example “ He’s done my office. I know not if ’t be true, But I, for mere suspicion in that kind, Will do as if for surety. He holds me well. he better shall my purpose work on him.Cassio’s a proper man. Let me see now” in this soliloquies he tells us his plan. Here he talks about he’s going to ruin Cassio reputation.
Revenge is the main theme in the play Othello by William Shakespeare and it is portrayed from the character Iago. Through Iago’s soliloquies, he reveals his horrible doings. Iago wants to get revenge on Othello and his loved one Desdemona. The reason why he wants to get revenge at Othello is that he promotes Cassio to Lieutenant. Iago takes advantage of his reputation “Honesty Iago” to manipulate other characters in the play to get revenge from Othello. Iago is aware that he can easily manipulate which is why he uses it to his advantage.
Iago’s Plans in Othello is very strongly used. “Allows him to skillfully weave his machinations of destroying Othello into their minds and actions; by manipulating character’s ” Iago is a devious man, a liar, a manipulator, and a psychopath. I feel as though there are a lot of people like Iago as a status quo. “Many politicians seem to fit into this category, manipulating people for manipulation sake.” However, to me, the most interesting psychopath of all is in the play, Othello. In this play, Through manipulation and lies, the villainous Iago shows how people can come to quickly distrust others, and escalate situations until death. Meaning that trust is basically all that you need to confide in someone without critically thinking. Iago’s hope is to not only cause destruction but to watch other wrecks it upon themselves. And cause harm between others and themselves like Othello did in the play. For example “ By playing the role of both trustworthy friend” and also in the play Othello said, “ I am not sorry either: I’d have thee live for in my sense ti’s happiness to die”. Meaning he knew he was trick by Iago and now he kills themselves.
In conclusion, Shakespeare plays Othello is known as a tragedy because of how powerful Iago was with being a good manipulator and causing innocent people to die and suffer.
