Marijuana legalization has been a hot topic for last couple of years. Lately it seems that drug policy and the war on drugs has a been in the news quite a lot. Lot of people believe that marijuana should be legalize and some people against legalize marijuana believe marijuana should remain illegal . It is becoming obvious that policies that United States take against marijuana coming to big question . The marijuana question seems to be the most different of the drugs and issue that are currently being addressed . New medical studies , approved marijuana by 23 states, and its consequences on those convicted from use of the most common illicit drug in the world, is forcing the United States of America rethink its stance on the matter. Twenty three states have laws legalization marijuana in the United States for medical use and Washington and Colorado first two states in US legalized marijuana for recreational use. There are some other states like Oregon and Alaska will become the next legal states for marijuana recreational use after voting . Many people believe that the usage of marijuana is dangerous , but it can be exact opposite . The side effects of marijuana are not much and studies proven that compare to other drugs like cigarette and alcohol its less harmful. . So if it less harmful than alcohol why it is illegal ? So why is people still against legalization marijuana ? So why legalization marijuana in US such a problem for many people. These question got me really interested about this topic .To both sides of the arguments there are many good and bad things that make marijuana to be illegal and legal in United States.
Marijuana used is very common in world , million of people using it regularly and almost 100 million that have ever used in this country. In US more than 35 percent population lives under some case of marijuana decriminalization , and according to government studies , these laws have not stopped the increase in marijuana negatively drug use. Furthermore government spend 30 billion a year into drug war , which some of dedicated to marijuana control and spend many more trying to catch marijuana dealers and grower. This time would be better utilized in dealing with more serous crimes. The use of marijuana as both medicine and recreational drug is being thoroughly questioned in the US . Twenty three states have approved the use of marijuana as a use of medical purposes. The usage of the drug marijuana has been extensively research proven to be one of the ‘most viable and safest source of medical value to the many people suffering from aids , cancer and chronic pains . A study of California show how marijuana effective for treatment of cancer . Over 74 of the cancer patient treated in the program have reported that is marijuana is more effective in reliving their nausea .
Marijuana was discovered in china back in days First its also known as the name of Cannabis . The people from china use this make rope and canvas . Marijuana is also known ‘weed’ . Weed is also used as a source of fiber . Some people also called that POT.. Marijuana was used in USA until 1937 and then it was banned under the marijuana Tax Act of 1937,as a result of increased usage due to the 1920 amendment that outlawed alcohol . In 1966 ,California was the the first state to legalize pot , setting off a significant trend through the country. Now these days marijuana is known as a schedule drug like heroin ,cocaine, and morphine. While certain states in the US currently allow medical marijuana use , the federal government claims that their law overrules state law and therefore users of the medical marijuana can be prosecuted.
Marijuana is commonly misunderstand drug that the most people do not understand. Supporter of marijuana believe that it can be safe for medical purposes and also helpful for economy but the other hand opponents believe that if we legalize marijuana it can be very dangerous for our society and kids . However there are lot of arguments for legalization marijuana both sides, but still the question is same should we legalize marijuana?
There are three major topical issue in my argument over marijuana legalization. First, does posses medical value ? Second , is marijuana harmful enough to remain illegal and lastly? , what are the effect of marijuana in our nation? About my first question I asked this question to my relative doctor , Does marijuana posses medical value? ‘Yes’ he said research has found limited clinical value in one compound of its FDA approved form . Smoking marijuana is an ineffective and illogical way to deliver medicine and there no harmful elements are delivered directly to the lungs .Marijuana can help with certain condition and treatments. He believed medical marijuana should be treatment option for patients and its right of sick people to help themselves by using marijuana as medicine .He also believe marijuana helps in the stimulation of appetite and reduction of the loss of lean muscle mass in AIDS patients . These AIDS victims also find the drug help with ‘wasting syndrome ‘ that often characterizes the terminal illness.
In additional , marijuana aids reduction of interlobular fluid pressure in the eyes caused by glaucoma , which can causes serious damage to vision. He told me according to American medical association in 2001 stated that marijuana should remain a schedule 1 drug , primarily basing their decision on the fact that they do not believe it has any medical value and that it has ‘no accepted medical use’ and possesses a ‘ high potential for abuse’.
About my second question I check some blog on internet and here what people said about it . Opponents against marijuana legalization for all purposes believe that it is harmful to the user and therefore remain illegal . One of the most point made by prohibitionists is that marijuana is a gateway drug and lead to harder drugs . They also argue that marijuana contains up to 25 percent of THC toady , compared to miniscule 3 percent in the 1960s. This clearly indicates an increased potency in the intoxicating chemical. It has scientifically proven that THC is stored in body fat, so some believe that it is possible that regular smokers could enough stored in their system to ‘sedated’ at all times. Some also claims that long long term use has shown changes in the brain similar to those seen from other drugs. Marijuana smoking illness risk of heart attack , blood pressure also rise , chest illness, lung infection cancer and many more.
About my third question ,what are effect of marijuana in our nation? I went to library and pickup some books about how marijuana effect our nation? I read couple of books and find out this is one of the most overlooked issue in the legalization debate is the influence of marijuana prohibition to our economy . The people of legalization justify the cost of prohibition with the main point that our society would be negatively affected if legalized . First , they feel that if legalized the danger of marijuana will be misinterpreted by the public and would ultimately increase the potential for abuse . They also convinced that we would see a crime rate increase on the nation wide scale if marijuana was no longer prohibited and was allowed to the public prohibitionists also insist that drug market would still exist for miners, and that decriminalization would increase the usage of the drug . If it will allowed medically , they believe it would be also be accepted recreational on false grounds.
I believe that marijuana would be great benefits to this country . I believe legalization marijuana because that only does it have a lot of medical value , but would bring many great relief to economy.
