CHAPTER 3
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Variables:
Independent variables: studies, health, life
Dependent variable: social media
3.2 Theoretical framework:
3.3 Sampling Methodology
Sampling is the method of choosing the topic under study, for gathering data. There are many sampling methods. Random sampling involves choosing sampling randomly without any specific technique or reason. Systematic sampling is based on some strategy or technique like taking every n-th subject from population or taking every n-th female etc. Stratified sample is the type of sampling that chooses most relevant subjects from the whole population and then finalizes the samples randomly from the selected sample.
This section explain the research design, population and Samples, instrument for data collection, data collection method and data analysis technique
3.4 Research Design
There are two broad categories of research designs. These categories are namely quantitative and qualitative research design.
3.4.1 Qualitative research:
Qualitative research primarily inductive process used to formulate theory or hypotheses. It based on text and also based on in-depth interview and structured or semi-structured interview. Non-numerical based research is called qualitative research.
3.4.2 Quantitative Research:
Primarily deductive process used to test pre-specified concepts, constructs, and hypotheses that make up a theory. It based on non-text. Statistical method is used for analysis. Questionnaire will use in this research is called quantitative research.
3.4.3 Chosen Research Design
This research work adopted the descriptive survey research design to find out the impact of social media on student in elsa qazi campus (university of sindh).
Population and samples:
The populations of the study were made up of Elsa Kazi Campus (university of sindh), fifty (50) students in elsa qazi campus (university of sindh) as sample.
3.5 Methods of Data Collection
Following data collection methods are most commonly used in order to conduct a research:
3.5.1 Experiments
Experiment refers to the method in which certain tasks are performed under controlled environment in order to get some results. The results might be expected or unexpected. Experiments focus on cause-and-effect mechanism. Based on the results of the experiments performed, analyses are made. Finally, the experimenter concludes the results.
3.5.2 Observational Study
Such a study involves making opinions based on observations from natural resources and previous researches. This is not very accurate data collection method.
3.5.3 Surveys/Questionnaires
Surveys or questionnaires are the methods that collect data from a sample of population whereas sample refers to the subjects under study that are. The answers given by the sample population are evaluated and analyzed. It is a very effective process since it gives clear decision making ability. Besides, it is a cost effective data collection method.
3.5.4 Research Instrument for Data Collection
Structured questionnaire was used to gather information from the respondents. The questionnaires were designed in 3 sections. Section ‘A’ consist of the respondents’ socio-demography, section ‘B’ contain questions based on the set objectives and the research hypothesis and section ‘C’ contain records of student performance accordingly.
3.6 Data analysis tools
• AMOSS
• SPSS
• SWOT
• PESTLE
3.6.1 Data analysis
Questionnaire was designed to collect primary data from the selected sample. In questionnaire, Likert scale (Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, and Strongly Disagree) was utilized. After collecting this primary data, its descriptive statistics are measured by using software “SPSS” (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).
