Essay: Artificial intelligence will be dangerous

In the world where man depends on machine, the demand of development of Artificial Intelligence becomes higher. From a self-driving cars on the streets, to automated drones used in military, to our homes as eldercare robots. Even though the AI is not capable of thinking by itself, it is possible a robot can lived just like as a human in the near future. The main concern when comes to AI, we do not know is how smart they will eventually become. The AI itself can be a danger to security and human if not in good hand. McDonald (2015) stated that, whether it is fiction or not, an increasing number of experts from an array of academic fields contend that robots of any intelligence should have the ability to differentiate between right and wrong, as a safeguard to ensure that they help rather than harm humanity (Coby McDonald, 2015, The Good, The Bad and The Robot: Experts Are Trying to Make Machines Be “Moral”, retrieved from https://alumni.berkeley.edu/comment/19533) . To begin with, an AI does not have ethics towards humankind. A machine cannot think when comes to on how to behave or interact properly. McDonald (2015) argues on how to implement morals to machine, whether easily program rules into its brain, or send it to obedience class. He said that these things could be a double-edged sword as it might mean better and safer machines, it may also introduce a slight of ethical and legal issues. If just program rules into the AI, for some way, it will break it without it intention. For example, if we programmed an AI not to harm any human life, a robot can cheat or lie a person just to make sure the man not hurt by the truth.

Second points that can shows that AI can be threat to safety of people is, AI itself is bias and inequality. “There is software used across the country to predict future criminals. This AI used in courts for the judge to decide whether to release the criminals or not. ProPublica run a study on how the software works and decide the criminal risk scores. They found that the algorithms of the software was likely to wrongly labeled the black defendants as future criminals, while white defendants were likely labeled wrongly as low risk more often than black defendants (Angwin et al., 2016). This software not only makes more criminals walk freely, but the person who should not be punished will be instead. There is a case where a girl was accused with a small crime cannot find a job since her profile said that she is high-risk future criminal.

Knapton (2015) stated that there are drones, which can track and kill targets even when out of contact with their handlers are researched by the US defense Advance Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The robots, called LAWS (lethal autonomous weapons systems) that can decide without human intervention who should live or die are to be armed quad copters of mini-tanks (Knapton, 2015). The robots are been programmed to find and shoot peoples with gun in their hands without being control by human. From this statistics, it is believed that a drone that been controlled by AI can be very dangerous and can risks many innocent lives. It also showed that on how some countries use AI to show their dominant in this world and use it in a wrong way. To end of this point, it is believed that Artificial Intelligence gives problem to the society and the safety of all nations is in great danger.
