World War II was a brutal, global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, though the related conflicts had started much earlier. During this war, military weapon technology experienced rapid advances, and over those long, hard six years, there was a major change in the technology. The war had begun with most armies using the technology that had originated from World War I, 20 years earlier than WWII. The world had advanced and used that technology. Within those six years, armies around the world had developed jet aircraft, missiles, and even atomic weapons. These weapons started out belonging to certain parts/ countries, but then expanded to the rest of the world. During, WWII, flight and bombing technology of war changed very rapidly between WWI and WWII. New production methods for weapons and other technology were created mostly during the two world wars. Some of that technology from the time period of WWI has helped us develop our aircrafts, missiles, and other technology. The weaponry had definitely changed the outcome of the WWII.
Coding also played a big role in WWII. For example, the enigma machine and Ultra (the first computer). The Germans had a lead on the war on encoding machines. You would think this is an advantage but, this lead was a major factor for Germany’s defeat. Germany had created the Enigma machine. This machine had a series of rotating wheels that were so complex that there were several million possibilities for each message. The Germans were positive that the Allies didn’t have The Enigma machine or the key to unlock it. What Germany didn’t know was that the British had 2 enigma machines. These machines were given to them by polish intelligence agents in 1939.
Ultra was the first computer which was constructed and named by the British. The idea of a computer had come from the enigma machine. The first computer was built from the enigma machine(S).
Coding was one of the reasons for WWII ending the way it did.
Then there was the medicine technology. Without the medication that we had during WWII many more civilians would have lost their lives because of injuries caused by the weapons. Also, that medication and surgical techniques were developed to become the ones we have today. Penicillin and surgical technique advances helped make improvements to heal wounds and cuts.
The atomic bomb was a weapon, but it had so many complications and details that it would be a whole other level or even considered a different subject. If it wasn’t for Hitler the world would have never been introduced to the atomic bomb. The atomic bomb had a huge impact on the outcome of the war and if we didn’t have the atomic bomb(s) the world would be working a lot more different. For example, the bombing of Hiroshima and Japan. However, was it a good thing that we were introduced to the atomic bomb? It was Albert Einstein who wrote the letter to president Roosevelt in 1939, stating the possibility of German atomic research. While Albert Einstein was researching and working on the atomic bomb, so were the British. The British had been working on an atomic bomb under the direction of a committee made up of physicists. The group of physicists had a code name which was Tube Alloys. Some of the men who would lead American scientific efforts in the war met in 1940. The scientists from the project came from around the world. Only the USA was rich enough to build and equip the largest conventional forces in in their authority to take on the atomic bomb project.
Was all of this technology a good thing or not?
