There are copious amounts of evidence to suggest that medical cannabis is a reliable resource both socially and medically. This has proven that medical cannabis should be legalised in Australia. Generally speaking, medicinal cannabis is cannabis prescribed to relieve the pain and other symptoms of medical conditions, such as epilepsy. It is important to make the difference between medicinal cannabis and recreational cannabis. Recreational cannabis is one of the forms of cannabis and is what people use to get ‘high’. For some people suffering from chronic or terminal illnesses, established medicines do not work as effectively as medicinal cannabis. Also, for some patient’s conventional medicines may work but cause devastating side effects that cannabis can help to reduce and even relieve. There are many arguments to support why medicinal cannabis should be legalised.
Medicinal cannabis can help to relieve pain for chemo and radiation patients and can even be used as a pain relief. Research suggests that there are conditions for which medical marijuana may be an effective treatment. These include inflammatory pain. Cannabinoids seem to be more effective that opiates in treating long-term, chronic pain. Opiates are better for treating short-term acute pain.  Cannabis can also cure and prevent Alzheimer and Glaucoma, it helps relieve stress, anxiety, depression and can even slow down tumour growth. It can be a safe and effective management for the symptoms of cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, pain, glaucoma, epilepsy, and other conditions. They cite dozens of peer-reviewed studies, prominent medical organizations, major government reports, and the use of marijuana as medicine throughout world history. There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of scientific studies showing that cannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), as well as whole plant formulations, are effective against nearly any disease you can think of.
Cannabis extract medicine, also known as “hemp oil” when referring to the type founded by Rick Simpson, is a concentrated formulation of cannabis that is ingested orally. By eating large amounts of the oil over a 3 – 6 month period, nearly any disease can either be cured or completely controlled. This is possible because cannabis medicine works essentially through the endocannabinoid system and the superregulatory system of our bodies that maintains homeostasis in the other systems. It is widely known and observable that people with cancer, chronic pain, inflammatory conditions, and other conditions smoke cannabis with remarkable efficacy. When you think about that, it’s pretty crazy that setting something on fire and inhaling the resulting smoke (thus getting the cannabinoids in a low-concentration form through the lungs, which are not meant to ingest things) works better than many expensive pharmaceuticals. But with cannabis extract oil, there are two primary differences. First, the cannabinoids are much more concentrated than with smoking, so it has a more powerful effect on your system. Second, the oil is ingested, not smoked, meaning it is digested through the system that is meant to absorb nutrients. Essentially, you are feeding your body the pure molecules that enable it to stay balanced, and since all disease is an imbalance of some kind, this medicine is effective against nearly anything. At least, that’s what the bulk of science and real experience show.

People against medical marijuana reason that it is too dangerous to use, lacks FDA-approval, and that various legal drugs make marijuana use pointless. They say marijuana is addictive, leads to harder drug use, interferes with fertility, impairs driving ability and injures the lungs, immune system, and brain. Opponents say that medical marijuana is a front for drug legalization and recreational use. The main psychoactive ingredient of cannabis is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Research has found that the cannabis plant produces between 80 and 100 cannabinoids and about 300 non-cannabinoid chemicals. THC in marijuana acts on the brain’s reward system that responds to pleasurable things such as chocolate, sensations and other drugs. It stimulates your brain cells just like other drugs do to cause intense excitement and blissful feelings. So if the THC is taken out of the cannabis it will make the marijuana more beneficial for medical purposes.
Cannabis drugs are not as addictive and even far less addictive then caffeine. Medical marijuana users who display signs of psychological addiction typically smoke cannabis as a crutch, use it every day, and don’t care how it affects their lives. If you are using medical marijuana as prescribed by your doctor, without abusing it, the chances of dependence are much lower. With proper control of its use, medical marijuana can be beneficial to many patients facing a wide variety of medical illnesses, without any worry of addiction.
