An acronym LGBT which stands for lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender community is one that refers to a special negative connotation among our society acceptance at large. People are judged by whom they love, how they look or who they are. People are often judged, discriminated or abuse. Violence, inequality, torture and even execution are the few terrifying facts that LGBT community face in the modern times.
A change is never expected overnight. LGBT rights and its movement can be traced well back in from 1970’s till date. In United States of America, LGBT too has unfold many history. Before the 1960s almost everything about living openly as a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) person was illegal. New York City laws against homosexual activities were particularly harsh. While underlying the achievement , we cannot ignore the Orlando incident 2016 when a gunman opens fire at a gay nightclub killing 49 people. According to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP), current data suggests that 20-25% of lesbian and gay people experience hate crimes within their lifetimes. Several acquisitions like Discrimination and harassment by law enforcement officers in LGBT community, intimate partner violence and sexual among LGBT people keep surfacing.
But, keeping the positive side I believe America as a nation is striving and facilitating LGBT rights. I am hopeful that one day we will have a world where there will be no discrimination over sexes and the choices we carry.
